Cooperation Beyond Borders

Introduction

The international foundation Balkan Net has been established in 2006 as an integrated trans-national competency network, initiated by former InWEnt (now - Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH) trainees of the countries of southeast Europe. The network operates as a legal entity through its liaison office in Skopje, maintains a branch office in Bulgaria and works closely on partnership basis with its numerous partners in the region.

Among other, the network serves as platform for know-how transfer, economic and technical cooperation and trans-national collaboration.

Balkan Net operates in accordance with the Macedonian legislation, it has its seat in Skopje, Macedonia and its founders are the former InWEnt trainees from 7 Balkan countries (Albania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Romania) with support of the German consulting companies ACT Schröder and ARÖW GmbH.

The creation of Balkan Net has been permanently supported by former InWEnt Capacity Building International, Bonn (now GIZ), on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Balkan Net is technically supported by the public-private partnership (PPP) competence network of North-Rhine Westphalia, which is an extraordinary source of know-how. It also possesses a wide-ranging experience in practical implementation of municipal PPP and cooperates with Balkan Net on a long-term basis.

By operating intensively in both the public and the private sectors in numerous international projects in the last four years, we have demonstrated that the cooperation on the Balkans can really be without borders. The achievement of our goals and mission continue with utmost enthusiasm.
